Manufacturing and Design

What is the manufacturing process used to produce the EnduraPOLE, and how does it impact the pole’s strength and consistency?

EnduraPOLE is made using a continuous pultrusion process, where fiberglass rovings and mats are pulled through a resin bath and then through a heated die to form a consistent, high-strength profile. This process ensures tight dimensional tolerances, minimal voids, and exceptional fiber alignment, which leads to consistent strength along the entire length of the pole.

How does pultrusion compare to filament winding in terms of structural performance for utility poles?

Pultrusion provides continuous, unidirectional fiber alignment, which gives the EnduraPOLE superior axial strength and stiffness—ideal for vertical and flexural loading scenarios like utility poles. In contrast, filament winding is better suited for radial strength but may introduce more variation in fiber angles and surface consistency. For long, column-like structures, pultrusion delivers more reliable performance and repeatability.

How is quality control handled during production to ensure uniformity across poles?

The poles are produced in a ISO-9001:2015 compliant manufacturing facility. We implement in-line monitoring systems for pull force and curing temperature throughout the pultrusion process. Additionally, batch testing for physical properties, dimensional checks, and visual inspections are conducted regularly. This ensures every EnduraPOLE meets the design and structural specifications before it leaves the facility.

Material Properties and Performance

How does the EnduraPOLE perform under high wind or ice loading compared to wood and steel poles?

EnduraPOLE maintains high flexural strength with controlled deflection under lateral loads like wind and ice. Unlike wood, it doesn’t degrade over time, and unlike steel, it won’t corrode. The uniformity in material properties means predictable performance under loading—critical for modern grid design.

What is the expected lifespan of the EnduraPOLE in different environmental conditions (e.g., coastal, desert, mountain)?

In virtually all environments, including highly corrosive coastal regions or arid deserts, EnduraPOLE is expected to last over 80 years. It is resistant to UV, immune to rot, insect damage, woodpeckers, and performs well in all temperature conditions, making it ideal for harsh or variable climates.

What makes the EnduraPOLE resistant to corrosion, rot, and UV degradation?

The fiberglass-reinforced resin matrix is designed to inherently resist moisture, chemicals, and biological agents. We also apply a UV-resistant veil and surface coating that protects the pole from long-term sun exposure, minimizing fading or material breakdown over decades.

Installation and Handling

How does the weight of the EnduraPOLE compare to wood or steel, and how does that impact transportation and installation?

EnduraPOLE is up to 50% lighter than wood and significantly lighter than steel, which reduces transportation costs and allows for safer, easier, faster installations with smaller equipment. This can be especially beneficial in remote or hard-to-access areas.

Are there any special tools or training required to install the EnduraPOLE, or is it compatible with standard equipment?

No special tools are required. EnduraPOLE is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing utility installation practices. Existing work methods used for wood poles can be used with the EnduraPOLE. EnduraPOLE can be handled, framed, and set using standard equipment, and it accepts traditional hardware with minor adjustments. The minor adjustments include the use of non-cleated hardware and the use of climbing steps.

Structural and Safety Considerations

What safety factors are built into the EnduraPOLE design to account for variability in loads and environmental stressors?

We incorporate a minimum 2.0 safety factor into all load ratings, accounting for variable environmental loads such as ice, wind, and installation. In addition, the maximum design stress of the EnduraPOLE has been determined by full scale testing as well as using statistical data. The maximum design stress for the EnduraPOLE is set at the 5% LEL value where a statistically 95% of a random sampling of pole would be higher than that value. The 5% LEL maximum stress value combined with a factor of safety of 2.0 ensures a high level of safety when using the EnduraPOLE.

What are the electrical insulation properties of the EnduraPOLE?

As a non-conductive composite material, EnduraPOLE naturally provides electrical insulation, which improves line crew safety.

Customization and Compatibility

Can the EnduraPOLE be drilled or modified in the field for attachments, and if so, how does that impact strength?

Yes, EnduraPOLE can be drilled in the field using standard tools, carbide-tipped twist drills, or diamond hole saws.. The minimum edge to edge distance between holes is 4 diameters of the largest hole. When done properly, drilled holes will have very negligible impact on the overall structural strength of EnduraPOLE.

What attachment options are available—can it support standard hardware used with wood or steel poles?

EnduraPOLE is compatible with most standard crossarms, bolts, and brackets used with wood or steel. Only non-cleated hardware should be used on the EnduraPOLE. We also offer pre-drilled options to streamline installation.

Adoption & Differentiation

What makes the EnduraPOLE different from other composite poles on the market?

What sets EnduraPOLE apart is the precision of our pultrusion process, our structural design tailored for utility applications, and the scale and quality control from years of manufacturing composites. We’re not retrofitting a material—we’re engineering it specifically for this use.

What challenges do utilities face when transitioning away from traditional materials, and how does the EnduraPOLE help overcome them?

The biggest challenges include unfamiliarity with composites and concern over long-term performance. EnduraPOLE addresses this with extensive testing, simple integration into current workflows, and materials that outperform legacy options in longevity, safety, and cost over time.

What is the biggest misconception about composite poles that you’d like to address?

The biggest misconception is that composite poles are fragile or hard to work with. In reality, they’re stronger than wood, don’t degrade over time, and are easier to install. The EnduraPOLE is engineered to have a high strength to weight ratio.

Future Outlook

What’s next for the EnduraPOLE product line—are there plans for new features, variants, or applications?

We’re expanding our product line to include larger diameters which will provide us with taller pole options and different pole classes. We are also developing fire-resistant variations of the EnduraPOLE.

How do you see composite materials reshaping the future of grid infrastructure?

Composites will play a major role in building resilient, low-maintenance, and sustainable infrastructure. As utilities face climate stresses, aging grids, and labor shortages, materials like EnduraPOLE offer a future-proof solution that performs reliably for many years.
